Thessaloniki has given birth, over the centuries, to important and inspired artists, embracing multiple cultures and ethnicities. Its Museums and Memorials are the proof and preserve the signs of the city culture.

Administrative center of Roman Thessaloniki: It was constructed at the end of the 2nd century AD on the place of a pre-existing market of early imperial years.
The complex of public buildings and other places has been a commercial and social center. Since 1966, the hidden portico, as restored, has been used for exhibitions, conferences and concerts. The Conservatory has also been open to the public since 1997.

2. Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki

It is one of the most important museums in Greece. Its collections include findings from excavations in the city of Thessaloniki and the wider region of Macedonia. In 1980 a new wing was opened to host findings from the royal tombs of Vergina. The museum has eight permanent exhibition sections covering thematic aspects of public and private life of antiquity and it is renowned for the originality of the exhibitions its hosts from times to times.

The museum is located in one of the most modern buildings of Thessaloniki, a project of great architect Kyriakos Krokos, awarded by the Council of Europe 2005. The Museum of Byzantine Culture presents different aspects of life in the Byzantine and post-Byzantine period. Art, social organization, religion, ideology, history itself and the daily lives of people find their place in the exhibitions. The museum is an exemplary preservation, research and promotion center of Byzantine and post-Byzantine culture.

Do not miss to visit it firstly in order to admire the magnificent building the Gallery is hosted: a real jewel of the city, Casa Bianca was built in early previous century, currently hosting art pieces of Greek painting and sculpture, representative of three generations of Thessalonian artists, among which Nikolaos Gizis, and also Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons. The other two exhibitions are also worth visiting: Alatza Imaret (91-93, Kassandrou Str,) and Yeni Tzami (30, Archaeologikou Mouseiou Str.), hosting temporary exhibitions.

The full of emotions museum of the city was founded to honor the rich Sephardic heritage, particularly highlighting the history of the Jewish presence in Thessaloniki, from the 3rd century to World War 2. It is housed in one of the rare Jewish-owned buildings having survived the fire of 1917.
It includes exhibits from permanent collections, exhibitions of photography such as of Simon Marks, and it has a considerable library and research center.

7. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Property

The two-storied house where Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was born in 1881, with original furniture in the living room, the dorm and the kitchen, also showcases photos of Kemal from various periods. In 1935, the house was donated from Greece to Turkey and in November 1953 it opened its doors as a museum.

The Centre is an important institution for the promotion of contemporary culture. It hosts the George Costakis collection (Russian avant-garde works), contemporary art and it is highly activated in Greece and abroad. Part of the museum is the Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki (9A) which hosts temporary exhibitions and its own productions www.cact.gr in Warehouse B of the Port.

It was established in 1979 following a donation of 47 works of art collector Alexandros Iolas. Currently, it hosts 2,000 works donated from several contributors, including Franz Geierhaas, Magda Kotzia, Alexandros Xidis, Dimitris Meimaroglou and it is continuously expanding with new wings. The activity of the museum in the context of educational programs is considered as highly important. Finally, it hosts events such as lectures, discussions, book presentations, art bazaars.

The Centre for the Promotion of Science and Museum of Technology is the most important technology museum in Greece. Guests may attend screenings in the digital planetarium, the widescreen cinema, the simulator and visit the Museum of Technology. At the Technopark interaction area, children and adults actively participate and learn while having fun. It hosts temporary exhibitions, organizes educational programs and conducts various events.
