Well hidden in the alleys of the center and specifically in the alley of Skra, which connects Alexandrou Svolou Street with Egnatia Street, “Donkey Garden” was loved from the first moment. This year it celebrates five years of operation and warm acceptance by the locals, residents of every area of the city, and its visitors.
It is, after all, one of the most famous brunch spots in the center and the location where it is located makes it even more special. As for its menu, it never stands still! On the contrary, it is regularly renewed, both in terms of drinks and coffees, as well as in terms of its delicious suggestions for brunch and all day dishes.
At “Donkey Garden” everything remains handmade, fresh and in direct collaboration with small producers, from the first day of its operation. Its international menu, based on the ethical and sustainable use of raw materials and seasonal products, reflects the owners’ love for local products and their zero waste philosophy, while both its industrial courtyard and its interior space show their appreciation for recyclable materials.
Old “loves”, new additions to the menu
Alongside the old, stable and “strong” proposals, which have been loved by the public, new additions have arrived to enrich what you are used to.
So, in the savory flavors for brunch, next to the Crispy Poshé – poached eggs breaded in panko, parmesan cream, sautéed mushrooms, white truffle oil and toasted bread – and the Crepe Madame – handmade buckwheat crepe, fried egg, aged gruyere cream, sautéed mushrooms, apaki, broccoli and truffle oil – this spring you will find the delicious and nutritious Avocado Croist, – butter croissant, with poached eggs, avocado cream, grilled halloumi, arugula, parmesan, pomegranate and spicy warm honey dressing – and the Pulled Pork Benny – pulled pork on a brioche bun, with poached eggs, cherry tomatoes confit, spicy hollandaise, gruyere flakes and crispy onion.
And in the dessert section, next to the Choco Dutch Baby Pancake with chocolate praline, almond butter, handmade red fruit jam and banana, you will find the truly unique Bougatsa Pistacchio – caramelized piecrust and poached pear, with peanut semolina cream – a refreshing suggestion, which is literally a hit!
As for the lunch and dinner suggestions, you will now find the new burger with crispy chicken breaded with corn flakes, mango dressing, mayonnaise, iceberg, pickled red cabbage and crispy onion, with wegdes fries.
And among the dishes that stand out, the Souvlakos – flat bread with aromatic yogurt, juicy chicken, fresh herbs, chilly and Florina pepper dressing and the ultimate vegan cauliflower burrito – caramelized cauliflower with oriental spices, avocado cream, vegan sweet chili mango, sweet potato and lime.
In the vegan suggestions, you will also find the Hummus Toast, with wholemeal bread and vegetables, as well as the Blue Spirulina Pudding, a nutritious combination of chia seeds and blue spirulina, accompanied by fruit and granola.
What to drink at “Donkey Garden”
In the beverage sector, “Donkey Garden” makes sure to constantly renew its selections, proposing something different every month. Among the recent additions, the Macha Raspberry Latte stands out, a combination of matcha, raspberry syrup and milk foam, which is available both hot and cold.
At the same time, the list of signature cocktails remains stable, with options such as the Negroni with infused strawberries and the Bloody Mary, where the vodka has undergone a special treatment, taking off the flavor – all the ingredients of the well-known cocktail are put into the vodka and left to “bind”, resulting in a much more intense flavor, when used in the drink itself.
In the welcoming courtyard, where much is expected soon…
The “Donkey Garden” space is constantly evolving, with the courtyard having recently been renovated and transformed into an even more welcoming destination.
In winter, the igloos – the trademark of “Donkey Garden” create a warm and comfortable environment, while in summer, the trees and the coolness of the urban courtyard are the perfect escape from the heat of the city.
Soon, the backyard will be completed, while events such as art gallery exhibitions, film screenings and cocktail parties will gradually begin. At the same time, “Donkey Garden” will continue its collaboration with large gyms, offering yoga sessions in the courtyard, which will be accompanied by healthy breakfast meals.
