Seafood street food is an experience that was missing from Thessaloniki—until now. The creators of “Fins and Buns” came up with an idea that fills this gap, and in its premium version no less. Located at 1 Alexandrou Svolou Street, in the heart of the city, seafood street food finally claims its rightful place on Thessaloniki’s gastronomic map, reaching the level it truly deserves.
Gourmet fish buns, crispy seafood, fresh ingredients, and signature sauces—all crafted for bold flavors and quick yet high-quality enjoyment—await you daily, proving that “fast” food can be refined, ultra-fresh, and highly creative at the same time.
Behind “Fins and Buns” lies a family story infused with the scent of the sea, passion, and unity. The father, Mr. Sakis, with many years of experience as a chef at the Officers’ Club of Thessaloniki, always had a dream: to open his own place where seafood cuisine would be given the recognition it deserves.
That dream was ultimately brought to life in December 2025 by his two sons, Tasos and Dimitris. They adapted it to modern standards and, instead of a traditional fish tavern, decided to create a completely unique project in the form of street food. The result is a one-of-a-kind spot that’s bound to become a favorite—especially for seafood lovers.
A menu from London to Istanbul
At “Fins and Buns,” nothing is left to chance. Their philosophy is based on the purity of flavors. Forget heavy sauces that mask the main ingredient. Here, the handmade buns are baked daily in a stone oven, with no trace of sugar, serving as the perfect base to highlight fresh fish. With 10 carefully crafted and uniquely flavorful options, the menu strikes a balance between international trends and tradition.
As a result, the quintessential seafood street food tradition—British fish and chips (classic cod with fries)—holds a prominent place on the menu, giving you the chance to enjoy this beloved dish every day. It’s also closely tied to Greek tradition, especially during fasting periods and beyond.
Eating fish on the go is also a tradition in Istanbul, where along the Bosphorus you’ll find street vendors selling “Balik Ekmek”—fish sandwiches eaten by hand. A tribute to Istanbul and the East, the dish of the same name at “Fins and Buns” features mackerel, olive oil and lemon sauce, and refreshing iceberg lettuce.
Among the more premium and original flavors, you’ll find breaded sea bream fillet “schnitzel-style,” served either in a sandwich or as a portion—truly a revelation for your street food adventures.
Of course, tempura shrimp and perch bites are also on offer—perfect for those looking for something lighter yet intense in flavor. Meanwhile, the “Island Spirit Bun” is the ultimate choice for those fasting or preferring vegan options, proving that going meat-free doesn’t mean compromising on taste.
All dishes are accompanied by homemade sauces prepared in-house—from authentic tartar and velvety mayonnaise to traditional olive oil and lemon dressing and classic garlic dip (skordalia).
Grab life by the fins!

Whether you enjoy your meal at the shop’s stands, on the go while strolling through the city center, or via delivery at home, the quality remains uncompromising and the experience unique.
A father’s passion combined with the love and energy of his two sons has created something Thessaloniki truly needed—with the ambition that this sea-inspired concept will soon travel beyond the city’s borders.
It’s no coincidence that it has quickly gained a loyal following, with customers saying: “Anyone who tries it once will definitely come back for more!”
