The Garden Restaurant “Like the Old Days” first opened its doors in Hanioti, Halkidiki in 1996. Today, with the third generation at the helm, the tradition remains alive from May Day until October every year, through a truly tempting menu of traditional Greek cuisine that draws in crowds of customers daily. And the story continues…
Much of the space has remained untouched — the old storage room and the grapevine in the yard have been preserved — while a large pergola, stone, and wood complete the aesthetics, maintaining the local character and architecture. Although it’s located in Hanioti, it still evokes an island vibe, inviting you to a quintessential summer experience!
Recipes based on products from Halkidiki
The menu — what else? — is all about the sea. Recipes are based on traditional Greek cuisine and made with local products from Halkidiki: olive oil, olives, honey, and wine from the peninsula. These ingredients bring you closer to the simple, rustic meals you’d enjoy at home. After all, this is the restaurant’s philosophy: to offer you local flavors and aromas on your plate so you can enjoy your stay in every sense.
The seafood selection includes fresh fish from the Athos peninsula — known locally as “Athonitika” — literally whatever the sea provides daily: cod, dentex, sea bream, and more, along with lobsters, langoustines, shrimp saganaki, octopus, calamari, mussels, fresh shellfish, and delicious seafood risotto.
Among the traditional homemade specialties, you’ll find the house favorites: stifado (slow-cooked beef stew with onions), kleftiko (lamb baked in parchment), and moussaka that will captivate your taste buds. In terms of meat dishes, try the souvlaki made with local meats and the lamb chops — a rare treat in Halkidiki. For appetizers, there are irresistible summer options like stuffed zucchini blossoms and dolmadakia (vine leaves stuffed with rice), rounding out your meal in the best possible way.
From the salad menu, don’t miss the “Kassandra” salad with fresh fruits and nuts, the classic Greek village salad, and the “Haniotiki” version with cherry tomatoes, local cheese (anevato), and wholegrain rusks.
Kids won’t be left out either, thanks to a special children’s menu designed to fully satisfy young appetites.
The wine cellar features a fine selection of Greek vineyards, mainly from Drama and local producers.
