Think of eating your favorite meats, cooked simply and traditionally, in a space that will remind you of your grandmother’s kitchen… This is “Strovolos”. It is the new hangout – an ode to meat eating, which opened just at the beginning of June, at the junction of 12 Mesologiou Street & 17 Noemvriou Street, in Konstantinopolitika.
In an open kitchen, where the fire burns permanently – with the only fuel being coal – you will see the Chef, Konstantinos Vanidis, putting all his art into traditional dishes, cooked with grandmother’s recipes, while the whole space invites you to a tasteful “journey” – return… to the roots!
And this culinary venture is already progressing extremely well, with afternoons and evenings, especially, attracting a lot of people.
Authentic Greek hospitality
The space radiates authentic Greek hospitality. It is a hangout with utensils that “smell” of tradition – such as mortars, pestles and wooden spoons and spatulas that decorate the walls – the old bicycle that greets you from the balcony, old photographs, the cast iron stove with the copper utensils, the old scale and of course the wood, placed reverently, to wait their turn to contribute to the cooking.
Flavors with passion
The flavors at “Strovolos” are authentic, made with passion and fresh ingredients. They acquire the aroma of tradition on the family fire and are combined with modern culinary art, evoking memories of family tables.
Each recipe is simple, without “refined” pieces of meat, with an emphasis on taste. You will taste exclusively handmade dishes, from the meats, to the excellent handmade spreads on the cold appetizers to the fries. Here the recipes are authentic: for example in the tzatziki they don’t skimp on the garlic and the tirokafteri is made with whole pieces of cheese.
The meats of Greece and Cyprus
Handmade, traditional Cypriot sheftalia – brought directly from Cyprus – grilled liver, handmade Cypriot souvlaki, “frygadeli”, burger stuffed with local cheeses, but also spits – kokoretsi “belalidiko” and short souvli – are just some of the flavors, with which you can enjoy an unforgettable meal!
Lamb ribs, pancetta steak (the whole piece of the animal) and delicious oven-baked meatballs in red sauce complete the top choices on the menu.
The small dishes
The menu is well thought out. In the hot appetizers, you will find small dishes such as traditional trahana, with feta or karamanlidiko sausage, soujouki with tomato and eggs, mushrooms in a pan with rosemary and ouzo, crab meat with fried eggs, chicken gyro from the spit and handmade pumpkin meatballs.
In the cheeses, a selection of famous types, from producers from all over Greece, such as sour cheese from Grevena, manouri with bukovo or smoked caseri from Sohos with harissa, but also halloumi from a Cypriot producer, are offered for the first glass of wine or for the main meal, in flavors that cover every spectrum of the palette.
Accompany your meal with rich, tasty salads, such as greens with sesame bread rings from Thessaloniki, spinach with sour cheese with honey, walnuts and sesame, as well as Lebanese tabbouleh.
The ideal cellar
In the cellar, you will find suggestions in every category of wine and a small but good selection of tsipouro, but also 10 beer options, which are enough to have a perfectly complete meal.
The whole experience at Strovolos, inside out, both with its beautifully appointed kitchen and dining room, and its courtyard, with its pergola and plants, feels like being at home.
You will hear Greek, mainly swing, music and every Saturday DJ selections, in a relaxed space, ideal for your daily outing and with very affordable prices.
One thing is certain: Those of you who love good meat, you will find your paradise at Strovolos!
