“Aristos” Restaurant is a magical destination located literally by the sea in Ormos Panagias, the picturesque fishing village and port of Agios Nikolaos in Sithonia, Halkidiki, famous for its traditional fish taverns. Having opened many decades ago and now run by the third generation of the family, this family-owned business wins hearts every day thanks to its ultra-fresh fish and seafood, its stunning seaside location, and the excellent service provided by its staff.

Ormos Panagias is one of the peaceful areas of Sithonia, known for its breathtaking sunsets and some of the best seafood taverns in the entire second peninsula of Halkidiki. Its beach, “Trani Ammouda” (“Great Sand”), receives the Blue Flag award every year and is nicknamed by locals “the Copacabana of Greece” because of its long shoreline and crystal-clear blue waters. From the picturesque harbor of Ormos Panagias, boats depart daily for cruises to Mount Athos, Ammouliani, and Ouranoupoli, while the Church of Agios Nikolaos is located nearby.

In this beautiful setting, Dimitrios Stergioudas, the grandfather of today’s owner, opened his traditional café in 1971 to welcome locals and visitors by the sea with Greek coffee, meze dishes, and fresh fish delivered by his traditional fishing boat. Later, he transformed it into a restaurant, which in 1984 passed into the hands of his daughter, Magdalini Stergiouda.

Her son and grandson of the original owner, Aristos, has been managing the restaurant since 2003. Today, he oversees a purely seafood-focused restaurant, with 95% of its catch coming directly from the waters of Halkidiki. He continues the philosophy of a traditional fish tavern with modern touches — a legacy that may even pass on to the family’s fourth generation.

Fresh fish, shellfish, and Halkidiki sea fennel

“Aristos” is famous for many delicious dishes on its menu. One standout is the Athonite-style fish cooked in a “ntavas” pan, prepared with sole, John Dory, or scorpionfish depending on the day’s catch. Equally popular are the restaurant’s renowned shrimp pasta and seafood risotto.

Even the cooked dishes are centered around fish and seafood. Try the octopus στιφάδο (stifado), seafood cabbage rolls with egg-lemon sauce, and — when in season — shellfish such as sea squirts and oysters, all locally sourced directly from the waters of Halkidiki and truly unforgettable.

Among the appetizers, you’ll find the highly praised “melitzanada” — baked eggplant with tomato, garlic, and feta cheese — handmade marinated anchovies, as well as seafood carpaccio and ceviche.

Fresh Halkidiki sea fennel dressed with olive oil and lemon, grilled sardines, mussels, grilled or fried squid, and all the beloved flavors of the sea are served daily, offering a complete gastronomic experience.

If seafood is not your preference, the menu also includes three meat options as well as vegan dishes to satisfy every taste.

The wine cellar features an excellent selection of wines, with emphasis on vineyards from Halkidiki such as Porto Carras and Ktima Kostandara, among others, perfectly complementing your meal. Naturally, one of the finest experiences here is enjoying tsipouro or ouzo with seafood meze just steps away from the sea.

Dining right by the waves

The value of “Aristos” and the trust people place in the restaurant and its team have been built over time and through a loyal clientele, many of whom arrive through personal recommendations. Aristos and his staff are always ready to do whatever is needed to ensure you enjoy an exceptional meal.

Everything about the atmosphere here smells of the sea, and thanks to the décor, you may even feel as if you are dining aboard a ship. Believe us — if you choose one of the front tables, you will enjoy the unique experience of dining literally on the sand, with the waves touching your feet! You simply cannot get any closer to the sea, and that is one of the many reasons why you won’t want to leave — and why you will definitely want to come back.

Tip: The kitchen at “Aristos” operates daily during the summer season from 12:00 to 23:00, while in winter it remains closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
