From the Brooklyn Burger that made its way to Athens’ Burger Fest in 2019, to its celebrated smash burgers and its latest venture, The Baguette Co, Black Dagger, at 16 Megalou Alexandrou Street in Stavroupoli, continues to evolve while remaining a firm favourite with its loyal following.

It certainly did not appear out of nowhere. Its story goes back to 2010 and continues to this day, shaped by changes, new ideas and an increasingly distinctive identity centred around burgers and contemporary street food culture.

2019 was the year everything took on a new form. The existing “Mpes sto Psito” at the location made way for Black Dagger, while retaining one small but highly distinctive element from its past: the black dagger that used to be stuck into the burgers. That simple detail eventually became the name and signature symbol of the new era.

Before the new concept had even been fully introduced to Thessaloniki, the team travelled to Athens for Burger Fest, representing Thessaloniki and Northern Greece. This was where the Brooklyn Burger made its debut – a combination of brioche bun, coleslaw, tomato, Philadelphia cheese and strawberry-chilli jam. It was an early indication that Black Dagger was not afraid to experiment with flavours and move beyond the predictable.

A constant appetite for experimentation

That spirit of exploration remains one of Black Dagger’s strongest characteristics. On the one hand, there are the foundations that have always defined the brand: quality fresh beef mince, freshly baked buns, carefully selected ingredients, generous sauces and the satisfying, indulgent character of proper street food. On the other, the menu is never allowed to stand still.

The Rock ’n Roll, Truffle Beef, BBQ Burger, Monster Burger and Smash the Boss are now among the options that stand out, while the smash burger concept has become an established and dynamic part of the menu. Alongside them, you will find fried chicken, fried chicken fillet and, of course, the rustic fries with aioli, which have deservedly developed a following of their own.

A clear street food identity

This is essentially how the Black Dagger philosophy works: remaining unmistakably street food while never compromising on the quality of the ingredients or the flavour. The setting, service, atmosphere and relaxed way in which the menu is presented all retain that informal, accessible character, while behind every dish there is care and a genuine desire to keep evolving.

Taking part in food festivals has been, and continues to be, an important part of this identity. Beyond showcasing the brand itself, festivals give the team an opportunity to test new ideas, share its own take on the burger and maintain a close connection with the ever-changing street food scene, of which Black Dagger has become an integral part.

A new step, new flavours, a new chapter

This constant desire to try something new has also led to the team’s latest venture: The Baguette Co by Black Dagger, launched after the summer of 2026 as a different proposition and, essentially, the business’s second “child”.

This time, burgers make way for baguettes. They come filled with options such as pork chops, kebab pieces, chicken fillets, German sausage and döner, complemented by sauces and following the same generous, uncomplicated – yet carefully prepared – street food philosophy.

The Baguette Co operates as a small parallel chapter within the world of Black Dagger. It is not simply another category on the menu, but a concept with its own distinct identity, giving the team the freedom to explore a different direction without losing its signature approach to flavour. The baguettes are available at the venue as well as through food delivery platforms, with special introductory prices offered during the launch period.

From the Brooklyn Burger that paved the way at Burger Fest, to smash burgers, fried chicken and now the baguettes of The Baguette Co, Black Dagger continues to follow the same philosophy that established it in the first place: retaining the elements that made it recognisable, while never resting on its laurels.

Perhaps that is ultimately what makes the story so interesting. The “black dagger” is still there – but every now and then, it takes aim at something new and sticks its mark on it!
