“Deskati” has been writing its own history on the gastronomic map of Thessaloniki for 42 years. Since 1983, when the first store was opened by the brothers Kleanthis and Kritonas Donas, until today, when the business has passed into the worthy hands of their four children, there is no family in the city that has not tried their excellent, charcoal-grilled spit-roasted chickens, with raw materials that come from the village of Deskati in Grevena, their place of origin.
The four-decade specialization in spit-roasted chicken, which established the restaurant and made it known in every home, has spread like wildfire and now, in addition to a series of also exquisite and well-cooked meats of all kinds, the menu offers a daily range of cooked items, which are made on the spot and which vary daily. At “Deskati”, you can now find a meal for every hour of the day, cooked traditionally and always with fresh seasonal ingredients.
The experience in spit-roasted chicken on charcoal, pre-existed for the Donas brothers who first opened “Deskati” in the 80s, due to their work in another very large similar business, which they themselves took over for a few years.
“Deskati” chickens and other meats
At “Deskati” -honoring their place of origin- they offer the most exquisite and well-cooked chickens, which are hard to resist. It is, after all, and has become established as a favorite lunch dish, especially for the weekends of the people of Thessaloniki.
Over the years, new items have been added to the list of meats and today you will also find chicken breast fillet, chicken leg, chicken souvlaki, even chicken soup, but also an excellent soutzoukaki and the classic “Thessaloniki” burger – the large, flat, juicy burger that is traditionally made in kitchens and grills that own the type, accompanied by the classic paprika, which with french fries, takes the flavor to the next level!
A stew for every day of the week
“Deskati” has now enriched its menu even more and ensures that you are provided with a variety of stews every day, prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients, which are changed daily – after all, they are extremely popular!
Every Monday, you will definitely find pastitsio. On the other days, cabbage rolls and giouvarlakia alternate with papoutsakia and meat soup, traditional dolmades, oven-baked mushrooms and grilled vegetables for appetizers, come to meet the giants with Prespa beans, moussaka alternates with stuffed meatballs, green beans with peas and giouvetsi or grilled beef, with Smyrnaean soutzoukakia.
In short, every day has its choices. Classic Greek flavors, which attract many people to the tables of “Deskati” every day, but also many orders that “leave” with take away or delivery. It is not a small thing, after all, to have homemade food cooked every day and at the end, handmade quince sweet with whipped cream!
