On the second peninsula of Halkidiki, in the picturesque village of Vourvourou, a distinctive gastronomic destination has emerged. Just beyond the famous Karidi Beach, Mystilli invites guests on an unforgettable culinary journey. This modern taverna is the creation of Dimitris Pardalis, who, after many years in the hospitality industry, turned his long-held dream into reality four years ago. Here, every dish tells its own story, offering guests an exceptional dining experience in a warm and welcoming setting.

The story behind the name

Finding a name with meaning and history was especially important to Dimitris Pardalis, the visionary behind Mystilli. The inspiration came from his sister, who discovered the ancient Greek word “mystilli” while researching online. In ancient Greece, a small piece of bread crust, known as a mystilli, was often used as a simple spoon to enjoy handmade delicacies.

This philosophy of simplicity, authenticity, and the pleasure of handmade food lies at the heart of Mystilli. Guests are invited to experience a culinary concept deeply rooted in Greek tradition, yet interpreted through a contemporary lens.

A kitchen with soul

At the centre of Mystilli is a kitchen driven by creativity and passion. Tradition and modern gastronomy come together harmoniously, presenting familiar flavours in a refined and innovative way.

The restaurant’s philosophy is based on combining contemporary techniques with classic Greek recipes. Ingredients are carefully sourced from local producers in the wider region, with fresh vegetables and premium-quality meats ensuring excellence in every dish.

Greek feta cheese and fresh tomatoes feature prominently throughout the menu, becoming something of a signature element of the kitchen and adding authentic Mediterranean character to many of the dishes.

Signature dishes

Among the restaurant’s most popular dishes are the mushroom loukoumades served with homemade tomato jam, rocket leaves, and honey. Lovers of traditional Greek cuisine can enjoy the classic moussaka, as well as slow-roasted pork kontosouvli accompanied by lemon and olive oil dressing, baby potatoes, and whipped feta cream.

For guests seeking more refined flavours, the Milanese risotto with slow-cooked beef cheeks is a standout choice, while the linguine prawn pasta continues to impress visitors time and time again.

The menu also features premium meat cuts, including the American bavette steak served with grilled vegetables, baby potatoes, and chimichurri sauce.

The Mystilli Salad — prepared with mesclun leaves, cherry tomatoes, dried figs, prosciutto crisps, parmesan shavings, and homemade balsamic vinaigrette — is both refreshing and exceptionally popular.

To complete the experience, guests are offered a complimentary glass of mastiha liqueur. Desserts include homemade ravani syrup cake, a rich chocolate moelleux with white chocolate filling, and a burnt cheesecake-inspired base, all of which can be paired with a choice of three ice cream flavours.

A menu for everyone

Mystilli also caters thoughtfully for vegetarian guests, offering handmade falafel served with tahini and yoghurt sauce in Arabic flatbread, as well as a Beyond Burger topped with homemade barbecue sauce, vegan mayonnaise, and caramelised onions.

Families are equally well looked after, with a dedicated children’s menu featuring options such as mini burgers, chicken nuggets with chips, and homemade pasta with tomato sauce and parmesan.

A warm and relaxing atmosphere

Mystilli welcomes guests into a space defined by warmth, calmness, and understated elegance. The minimalist interior design highlights the natural beauty of wood, creating an atmosphere of earthy sophistication.

Handcrafted wooden tables finished with liquid glass invite guests to relax and savour the experience. The aim is simple: for everyone to feel entirely at home. Soft blues music playing discreetly in the background further enhances the laid-back and intimate atmosphere.

Carefully selected wines and drinks

The dining experience at Mystilli is complemented by a carefully curated wine list designed to enhance each dish. Featuring around fifteen labels, the selection focuses primarily on Greek vineyards.

Particular attention is given to wineries from the Drama region, including the renowned Pavlidis Estate and Skouras Estate, offering wines capable of satisfying even the most discerning palates.

In addition to wine, guests can enjoy a range of bottled and draught Greek beers, with favourites including MAMOS and Nymfi.

Naturally, no Greek dining experience would be complete without premium ouzo and tsipouro, perfectly paired with traditional meze dishes and adding an authentic local touch to every meal.

Hospitality that makes the difference

What truly brings guests back to Mystilli time and time again is the unique combination of atmosphere, exceptional flavours, handmade food, and the genuinely welcoming environment created by the team.

For owner Dimitris Pardalis, customer satisfaction is the greatest reward. As he explains:
“What I do, I do because I truly love it. My goal is for people to enjoy not only the food, but the entire experience. There is no greater reward than that.”

A touching example of this loyalty came from a Bulgarian couple who visited the restaurant for the third consecutive year. Although they were no longer holidaying in the area this summer, they made a special stop at Mystilli on their journey home simply to enjoy one final meal before leaving Greece. As Dimitris says, “moments like these give us strength and immense satisfaction to continue.”
