The restaurant “Oshu“, opened its doors in October 2023 at number 45 of Nikis Avenue, by the catering group “Privée Group”. The word “Oshu” in Japanese means “Europe” and the name was chosen to signify the transfer of Japanese tradition and cuisine to a European city, such as Thessaloniki. It is the first and only restaurant in the city that offers “Nikkei” cuisine – a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian tradition – aimed at lovers of good food and those looking for new experiences and tastes and seeks to introduce the people of Thessaloniki to something modern and innovative, beyond from the usual Sushi restaurants.

Japanese cuisine and Sushi in general are no stranger to the people of Thessaloniki. In the minds of most, however, Japanese cuisine is synonymous with raw fish, sushi, tempura and noodles.

The people of “Privée Group” see food as an “art form” and what they want to achieve through “Oshu” is to broaden the world’s perception of Japanese cuisine, through innovative taste proposals from Japanese tradition and with excellent quality materials.

Why “Oshu”?

The menu – absolutely value for money, so that more and more people can become partakers of this ambition – is representative of “Nikkei” cuisine, that is, the mixing of Japanese and Peruvian traditions.

Japanese cuisine is going through a flourishing period and is a strong global trend of our time, from which Thessaloniki has not remained untouched. There are several shops that offer it, however “Oshu” seeks to recommend something more: the unrivaled combination of flavors, creativity and innovation, which characterizes “Nikkei” cuisine, which was born at the end of the 19th century, after the arrival of immigrants from Japan to Peru and which perfectly, led to the harmonious assimilation of the two culinary worlds.

In the logo of “Oshu”, the pine tree represents the restaurant’s core values: quality (elegant design and use of red color), tradition (use of the character “kanji” – 寿, which refers to Japanese tradition and authentic Japanese cuisine) , sophistication (simple and elegant design, suggesting a sophisticated restaurant) and memorability (attractive and memorable logo, essential for a restaurant trying to stand out in a demanding market).

Numerous surprises for your palate!

The Chefs of the restaurant are there for you every day, in the kitchen of “Oshu”, to bring you into direct contact with the above flavors. Inspired by their trips to Japanese cities, but also by the combinations of flavors they have acquired through their long culinary career, they manage every day, through the specific menu, to make the visitor experience multifaceted and numerous surprises, which touch the his palate!

The menu can satisfy, literally, every taste preference, since it includes everything: soups, salads, raw and cooked fish, raw and cooked meats and of course, sushi.

Typical dishes of the “Nikkei” cuisine stand out, such as the chicken fillet with yellow anticucho sauce and chives, the tiradito tuna with yuzu kosho aioli, soy sauce and citrus fruits, the oshu ceviche, with greater amberjack, sweet potato, jalapeňos, tiger’s milk and kumquat .

We also recommend the beef kushiyaki with anticucho sauce and thyme and honey crumble, as well as the royal quinoa, with “Nikkei” style salmon, avocado, mango, coriander and wafu dressing.

Only the highest quality ingredients are used in all dishes: wagyu from Japan in the beef category – meat famous for its excellent taste and rich and fatty texture – juicy and tasty organic chicken, raised 100% with corn in the chicken category and real dried crab and not imitation crab, like surimi, in the sushi category.

The goal is for customers to enjoy, to the maximum extent, the flavors of each dish, always combined with quality – the only right way, according to its people – so that customers are satisfied and have an unforgettable experience.

Unique variety of Asian teas

At “Oshu”, one can enjoy a unique variety of 50 different flavors of traditional Asian teas, accompanying them with breakfast or brunch and flavors such as the excellent scrambled eggs on sourdough bread, with Kabayaki eel and Teriyaki sauce.

Omakase Bar: Oshu’s Private Room

In the “Oshu” area, there will also be a separate area, with a very special aesthetic: the “Omakase Bar”, an exact copy of the area where, traditionally in Japan, guests sat, were served and tasted every flavor of the cuisine.

Here, you will be “left in the hands” of the Chef, who will create a menu especially for you, with premium, seasonal and fresh ingredients that he will select, according to your wishes. The space will function as privée and the table reservation procedure will be strictly followed.
