In the heart of Bit Bazaar, the most special, perhaps, point of the upper Egnatia street side of the center, is “Plateia – Oinos & Gefseis”. It has been growing for years and offers all the flavors of traditional Greek cuisine and guarantees you ideal meals every day.

The history of the Bit Bazaar, formerly known as the “Lice Market”, in the building block surrounded by Olympou, Venizelou, Filippou and Tositsa streets is long and dates back to 1928, when it was rebuilt as a complex to the west of the Ancient Market Square .

Then, with the mass settlement of refugees after the Asia Minor Disaster of 1922, plots were granted to the Refugee Building Cooperative of Thessaloniki and two-story buildings were built, which were inaugurated in the presence of Eleftherios Venizelos. The rooms on the upper floors housed the refugees, while on the ground floor there were various small shops selling mostly old clothes, most of them full of… lice. This is how the “Lice Market” got its name (in Turkish, bit means lice).

In the center of the block, an enclosed square with six arcades, ending at Tositsa, Olympou and Venizelou streets, Bit Bazaar, is the “bee’s nest” of entertainment, for all tastes and all ages.

Students, couples, passers-by, tourists, residents of the city – regular patrons of the area, we have all passed by Bit Bazaar at some point, to enjoy a meal with our company, with traditional flavors, but also more modern, “changed” or a little more ethnic now, to drink retsina sitting at long tables, to chat, to socialize.

The basic ingredients for a perfect meal!

Operating in a total of five Bit Bazaar stores, today’s “Plateia – Oinos & Gefseis” is a tavern, operating in the center and upper side of the courtyard. Its owners, former employees of neighboring stores in the square, with many years of experience, knowledge and love for the area, have taken care to ensure the best for your every visit.

As a traditional Greek tavern, it honors all the basic ingredients, for a meal the way you want it. Wooden table seats and fabric upholstery inside, plenty of outdoor space and a menu that includes all the guaranteed Greek flavors in the dishes, ensure every day, from 19.00 to 02.00, delightful afternoons and evenings!

Here, quality and quantity match, which is why “Plateia – Oinos & Gefseis” is chosen by everyone, regardless of age, profession or education. Like all Bit Bazaar stores, it attracts many students, but now also customers from all over the city and beyond, groups, couples, visitors and tourists, who can here try authentic Greek cuisine, in an atmosphere ideal for a group of friends, but also ideal for quieter meals. It also consists of five buildings, while on the upper floor the environment is ideal for gatherings of friends in the winter.

Greek flavors in every dish

The menu includes, among other things, a variety of meats, delicious fried pork, freshly baked and prepared with pure ingredients, a truly enjoyable taste experience, juicy burgers and grilled skewers and in general everything that can be an ingredient for a delicious meal and a rich table .

There is no shortage of seafood suggestions, such as octopus, grilled squid or salty cured mezes (small side dishes) for tsipouro and ouzo, or stews that go well with the wines of the cellar.

Among the appetizers, the fried zucchini accompanied by tzatziki, the handmade eggplant salad, the feta cheese with sesame and honey and the talagani with homemade jam stand out, little “magical goodies” that will make you smile with every bite. From the salads, be sure to try the Greek village salad, the green one with pomegranate and of course the much-loved dakos, which becomes irresistible in the summer.

For dessert, the choices are again traditional. You will taste from chocolate mosaic cake and yogurt with honey, to cool seasonal fruits, such as watermelon and melon in the summer, which will ideally close each of your meals.
