The Takos restaurant has been operating in Thermi since 1997 and is one of the top gastronomic destinations in Thessaloniki. Its cuisine, focused on Greek gastronomy, with elements from the Mediterranean culinary tradition and inspired by the monastic cuisine of Mount Athos, composes the ideal combination for its people, who always use the purest ingredients. They are waiting for you every day, to offer you exquisite flavors of meat and seafood, truly unique combinations that will delight you!
In the restaurant “Takos”, one thing is non-negotiable and that is the persistence in the search for excellent quality ingredients, from every corner of the Greek land, but also in the combination of traditional and modern cooking techniques, which also ensure their unique flavors, for 27 years.
The restaurant’s menu includes a wide variety of fine dishes intended exclusively for lovers of good food. The “recipe”? After making a transition from the simple, classic restaurant and completing a cycle of tests, its people ended up with Greek flavors, keeping elements from Mediterranean cuisines, especially Italian, which, for them, stand out.
The influences do not stop here, but also touch the monastery kitchen of Mount Athos, highlighting a creative Greek cuisine, with a menu card that moves according to the products of each season and changes constantly, adapting to the availability of ingredients. The result is dishes that will enchant you.
Let us take you through some of them…
Flavors that stand out
Even the most classic dishes, at the “Takos” restaurant, acquire their own special taste.
The classic kebabs are prepared here and served with pickled onion, smoked paprika and mint. Hunkar begendi is offered as an appetizer, in the form of spring rolls: they are the restaurant’s small hunkar begendi pies, with a handmade filling of beef and eggplant puree. The braised veal is combined with crunchy vegetables.
Tartar of fresh fish of the day, in an artichoke a la Polita recipe, cooked with peas, dill and other fine ingredients, is one of the truly unique proposals on the menu. The Chef’s creativity ensures a truly unique combination of flavors that will be unforgettable!
In the same category, of seafood, try the lemon risotto, which is inspired by the favorite dish with stuffed zucchini and egg lemon, in which, however, the minced meat has been replaced by shrimp.
You will also find fillet of fresh fish of the day (umbrina cirrosa, scorpaena, red porgy, common dentex, etc.), cooked with potato, pumpkin, oil and lemon, just as the late monk Father Epiphanius of Mount Athos used to cook his most famous recipe.
As for appetizers, the savory cheese cake – rusk made from carob soil, along with roasted almonds, oven-roasted parsnips, cherry tomatoes, sour cream and lemon marmalade – is a proposal you will want to try again and again!
Among the salads, the village salad with breaded feta cheese, as well as the cauliflower tabbouleh, a truly special taste, definitely stand out. You should also definitely try their special Politiki salad with pomegranate and sour apple.
On the menu you will also find tzigierosarmas risotto, handmade oven-baked cabbage dolmades, piyaz lemon bean with thyme, delicious smoked herring, lentil salad with tarama, delicious sun-dried octopus, and fresh squid, made with a special chickpea daal with lemon , a dish influenced by Mount Athos. The smoked mackerel and the fish fricassee are also outstanding.
Almost exclusively, extra virgin olive oil is used in all dishes.
Greek wines and spirits
The cellar consists, exclusively, of labels from the Greek vineyard and especially many proposals in white wines, but also everything that matches the proposals of the menu. You will also find ouzo, tsipouro, beers and whatever other option you prefer for your meal.
A value for money destination
Visitors vary. Customers come both from Thessaloniki and the surrounding areas, but many also arrive from the city’s airport, since the location of the restaurant is ideal.
