Vermio is celebrating half a century in the cheese and dairy industry. Since 1975, the company has grown into an established and trusted name in the wholesale trade of cheese and dairy products.
Its story, however, began even earlier, rooted in a family with a long-standing knowledge of and tradition in cheesemaking. Nikolaos Safarikas, grandfather of the current owner, Nasos Adam, laid the foundations of the family’s involvement in the sector in Veria. It was this connection with the region that inspired the business name, Vermio, which it proudly retains to this day.
The second generation, led by Nasos’s father, Lazaros Adam, took over the day-to-day running and development of the business, building the foundations on which its present-day success rests.
Today, with the third generation at the helm, Nasos Adam continues the family’s journey, guided by the same core values: experience, reliability, quality and consistency.
From Greek producers to imported products
The company specialises in the wholesale trade of cheese, offering an extensive range that includes carefully selected products from both small-scale and larger Greek producers, as well as imported cheeses and a wider selection of dairy products.
Working with producers of different sizes allows the business to maintain a varied and flexible range, catering to a broad spectrum of requirements and specifications. Its long-standing priority has always been to source high-quality products, with particular emphasis on consistency, availability and reliability.
The expertise accumulated over three generations is a significant advantage, not only in selecting and handling products but also in building lasting partnerships with producers and professionals across the market.
A well-organised distribution network
Vermio’s strength lies in more than simply trading in quality products. Over the years, the company has placed particular emphasis on developing an efficient distribution network, which remains one of its defining features.
Three years ago, the business moved its operations to its own premises on the Old Allied Road in Diavata, occupying a site of 4,000 sq. m. These modern facilities provide the space and infrastructure needed for the efficient storage, handling and distribution of its products.
The company also operates its own fleet of five refrigerated lorries, ensuring daily deliveries throughout the Thessaloniki and Halkidiki regions. For customers and partners elsewhere in Greece, it works with an organised network of transport companies.
Working with the hospitality and food industries
The company serves a wide range of professional clients. Its products reach restaurants, hotels and mini-markets, while a significant part of its business also involves manufacturers in the pastry and salad industries.
The diversity of its partnerships calls for reliable stock availability, punctual deliveries and the flexibility to meet different requirements. Maintaining a comprehensive product range and an efficient distribution system is therefore central to the company’s everyday operations.
Quality backed by consistent standards
Product quality remains Vermio’s top priority, with consistently high standards at the heart of everything it does. Producers and products are selected according to the demands of today’s market, while the company holds the necessary quality certifications, including ISO 22000.
Quality, however, goes beyond the product itself. It encompasses the entire supply chain, from selecting producers and handling cheese products to their storage and transportation. In an industry where proper temperature control and reliable delivery are essential, well-organised facilities and infrastructure form an integral part of the company’s philosophy.
Vermio’s journey reflects the evolution of a family business that has successfully expanded its operations without losing sight of the principles on which it was founded. Three generations of experience, in-depth market knowledge, long-standing relationships with producers, an extensive range of Greek and imported products and an organised distribution network all contribute to the company’s identity today.
More than 50 years after it first began trading, Vermio continues to invest in quality, product availability and the reliable distribution of cheese and dairy products. With knowledge passed down from one generation to the next and modern infrastructure opening up new opportunities, this family-run business maintains a strong position in the market, building on a long-standing tradition that has grown into a modern network of partnerships throughout Greece.
