Located at 66 Agnostou Stratioti Street in Polichni, Kreata Filakis has more than 70 years of history behind it. Throughout those decades, the family has built up an extensive knowledge of how to select, handle and showcase quality meat – an expertise that today sits comfortably alongside the contemporary concept of a delicatessen.
The same family tradition has also been behind the culinary journey of the neighbouring Sagrado restaurant since 2020, while the family has operated its own meat-processing facility since 2008. Over the years, the Filakis name has grown steadily, always remaining faithful to three fundamental principles: quality meat, an in-depth understanding of the raw ingredient and the belief that quality is an everyday commitment.
For decades, Kreata Filakis has been a trusted name in Polichni and the wider area. Yet the story behind its counters extends far beyond retail. Today, the family’s activities encompass meat production, processing, packaging and distribution, drawing on expertise that now spans three successive generations.
From 1954 to the present day
The family story began in 1954 with Theofilos Fragkopoulos, affectionately known to those around him as “Filakis” – the nickname that gave the business its name and has remained with it for more than seven decades.
Over the years, the original business continued to evolve without moving away from its core expertise: meat processing and trading. Today, the company produces, packages and distributes meat with a strong emphasis on quality standards. Products are transported in its own refrigerated vehicles, fitted with monitoring systems to ensure continuous control of the cold chain.
It is this same expertise and decades of experience that connect Kreata Filakis with Sagrado, the restaurant located just a few metres away. The restaurant represents the contemporary culinary evolution of a family that has been working closely with its primary ingredient for generations.
The meat moves from the butcher’s counter into Sagrado’s kitchen, where it takes on a new identity in burgers, speciality cuts and generous meat-focused dishes. Together, the two businesses create a complete gastronomic journey – from careful selection and processing to the finished dish served at the table.
Butcher’s shop meets delicatessen
At Kreata Filakis, the familiar character of a traditional neighbourhood butcher’s shop meets a more contemporary approach to food shopping.
The display counters feature a wide selection offresh meat, including beef, pork, lamb, goat and chicken, alongside sausages and a variety of cuts suited both to everyday family cooking and more special occasions.
At the same time, the shop also operates as a delicatessen, offering cheeses, cured meats, organic products and carefully selected speciality foods to complement the main selection. A visit, therefore, can go well beyond choosing a good cut of meat, providing inspiration and ingredients for an entire meal.
The experience does not end at the counter. Personal service remains an essential part of the Filakis philosophy. Customers can ask for advice on the most suitable cut, how it should be prepared and the best way to cook it according to the recipe they have in mind.
It is the kind of practical knowledge that can only be acquired through years of working with meat every day – and here, that expertise becomes genuinely useful guidance for the customer.
Expertise, careful selection and a relationship built on trust
For a family business with such a long history, quality is not simply about the product itself. It runs through every stage of the process and every interaction with the customer.
After so many decades in the same area, Kreata Filakis has built a lasting relationship of trust with customers in Polichni and beyond. Whether they are shopping for an everyday family meal or preparing a table that calls for something a little more special, customers return for the combination of quality, expertise and personal service.
And so, from the original butcher’s shop of 1954 to today’s combination of traditional butchery and delicatessen products, and from the Filakis counter to the dishes served at neighbouring Sagrado, this family story continues to evolve while remaining true to the principle that has defined it from the very beginning: an unwavering commitment to quality in everything it does.
