With a family history spanning almost 70 years, signature burgers, carefully selected cuts, handmade creations and one of the most distinctive courtyards in western Thessaloniki, Sagrado, at 50 Agnostou Stratiotou Street in Polichni, has built its own unique identity over the years.
Behind the story of Sagrado is a family with decades of experience in the world of meat.
It all began back in 1954, when Theofilos Frangopoulos, affectionately known as “Filakis”, started the family business with the “Filakis Meats” butcher’s shop. In 2008, the family expanded into meat processing with the opening of its own processing facility. Sagrado followed in 2020, becoming the next chapter in this journey — a place where the family’s deep knowledge of quality meat could finally make its way from the butcher’s counter onto the plate.
The restaurant’s name emerged from a search for a Latin- and Spanish-inspired name, with inspiration coming from the Pulp Fiction poster featuring actor Samuel L. Jackson enjoying a mouth-watering burger, as well as from the meaning of the word “sagrado”, which means “sacred” in Spanish.
Today, Natassa Kyrkou and her daughter, Thei, together with their team, have created a restaurant with a strong personality — one that remains committed to quality while confidently experimenting with flavours and combinations.
Meat takes centre stage
The foundation of the menu is, naturally, meat. And for good reason: the meat comes from the family’s own butcher’s shop, located just a few metres away, allowing for direct knowledge and control over the quality of the raw ingredients.
The philosophy is built around clean, well-defined flavours, excellent ingredients and as many handmade preparations as possible — from the burgers themselves to the sauces that accompany the dishes.
Burgers are one of the defining chapters of the Sagrado experience. Among the Signature Burgers, standouts include the Tartufo, with smoked Metsovone cheese and porcini truffle sauce, and the Sagrado, served in a pretzel bun with onion rings and smoky mayo.
The menu also features options such as the Jack Daniels Burger, Crunchy Chicken, Juicy Lucy, Double Burger and Secret, offering flavours that go well beyond the ordinary.
From premium cuts to Jack Daniels spare ribs
For those who prefer their meat in its purest, premium form, there are choices including Tomahawk, rib-eye and T-bone steaks, as well as Mexican-style pork steaks and pork belly steaks.
The Jack Daniels Spare Ribs hold a special place on the menu and are certainly worth trying at least once. The selection is complemented by pasta dishes, including lasagnaki with chicken and mushrooms and Cretan skioufikhta pasta, as well as porcini risotto, salads and appetisers.
And because no complete meal is truly finished without dessert, the sweet finale includes options such as warm chocolate soufflé with Madagascar vanilla ice cream, orange pie and cheesecake.
Beers, cocktails and frozen margaritas
The drinks selection is another strong feature of Sagrado, with beers from Greek and international breweries. The restaurant offers 13 beers on tap, from both Greek and international craft breweries, alongside wines and cocktails available throughout the year.
Among the most distinctive choices is the signature frozen margarita, a refreshing take on the classic cocktail that pairs perfectly with the atmosphere of the courtyard and can be enjoyed throughout the year.
A courtyard you won’t easily forget
Food is undoubtedly at the heart of Sagrado. Yet the setting itself plays an equally important role in creating a complete and memorable experience.
Beyond the impressive interior, a distinctive paved courtyard opens up behind the façade, filled with lemon trees, jasmine and a touch of nostalgia. It creates the feeling of having escaped the city, even though you have never actually left it.
An old house has been transformed with Mexican-inspired touches, while the courtyard also offers plenty of space for younger visitors. The casual service and friendly, smiling team complete a philosophy in which dining is about far more than simply having a meal — it is about enjoying the whole experience of going out.
Ultimately, Sagrado brings together two different eras: a family tradition in meat that began more than seven decades ago and a contemporary approach to burgers, premium cuts, drinks and relaxed dining.
And it is precisely this connection between heritage and modernity that gives Sagrado much of its character — combining experience and authenticity with a fresh, contemporary approach to eating out.
