The story of the company begins in 1902, when the great-grandfather of the family from the 40 Ekklisies of Eastern Thrace, deals with goldsmith and watchmaking in America, Constantinople and then settles in Thessaloniki.

His eldest son, Athanasios Vildiridis, from the age of 13, learned the art of goldsmithing next to him and in 1931 he opened the family shop at 39 Venizelou str. (in Bezesteni).

The name of Athanasios Vildiridis was associated with quality, reliability and the perfection of jewelry manufacturing. At the age of 97, he retired from the field, having previously been awarded the title of the greatest working goldsmith in Greece.

The new era

His youngest daughter, Virginia Vildiridi, an economist by profession, married Vassilis Basioudis, also an economist, who learned the traditional art of goldsmithing and diamond bonding alongside his father-in-law Athanasios Vildiridis from 1971. He then studied gemmology (FGA) and diamondology (DGA) in England and in America diamondology (GIA).

By working hard, both of them managed to connect the traditional methods with the modern world perception in the field of goldsmithing. With their knowledge, experience and the relationship of trust they have acquired with their customers, they succeeded in establishing in 1997 the company with the distinctive title “Virginia Vildiridi” jewelry since 1902. They managed to stand out in the world of fine gold and precious stones, with their passion and love for jewelry now being passed on to their little daughter Thanis Vildiridou-Bassioudis (4th generation).

Thani Vildiridou – Bassioudi leaves for America where she studies Design, Jewelry Making, Diamond Setting (GIA) and in Belgium Diamond Appraiser (HRD). Returning from studies, with the knowledge she acquires, hard work and right partners, she manages in a few years to win the acceptance and respect of customers, creating a very modern shop and workshop in the center of Thessaloniki.
